  • High-quality synthetic rubber with a PTFE (Teflon) coating — efficient water clearance and quiet operation. The PTFE additive reduces friction and drag, giving a smoother wipe and greater resistance to wear.
  • Plastic components made from POM (polyoxymethylene), a material with outstanding mechanical durability.
  • Metal parts made from high-carbon steel with an electrophoretic anti-corrosion coating, for full protection against rust.

Choosing the right type of wiper blade

All wiper blades do the same job, but they differ in construction, in how pressure is applied to the glass and in how they behave at speed. Three things decide the right choice: the blade length (usually different for the driver and passenger side), the arm attachment type, and the construction. Reliable performance: OXIMO® frame wipers

This traditional design uses a metal frame with a system of yokes that applies pressure at multiple points along the blade, so the rubber follows even strongly curved windscreens. OXIMO® frame wipers are available with a U-type (hook) attachment in 8 mm and 9 mm widths, as well as versions for side pin arms (older US vehicles) and bolt-on rail arms (older Japanese vehicles).

Modern design: OXIMO® flat wipers (frameless wipers)

Flat wipers — also known as frameless or beam blades — have no external metal frame. Instead, a pre-tensioned steel strip hidden inside the blade shapes it and distributes pressure evenly along its whole length. The aerodynamic, low-profile design reduces wind lift at motorway speeds. With no exposed yokes, there are also fewer places for snow and ice to build up, so the blade is less prone to freezing to the glass in winter.

Rear-window wipers

Hatchbacks, estates and SUVs need a rear blade as well — it is shorter, works on a steeper, dirtier window and is often forgotten until visibility is already poor. OXIMO® offers rear wipers as blades only, as complete blade-and-arm assemblies, and in a multi-adapter version.

When should you replace your wiper blades?

Even top-quality wipers wear out gradually through UV exposure, temperature swings and everyday use. Before you replace them, it is worth ruling out simple contamination:

  1. Clean both the windscreen and the rubber edges with a soft sponge and a mild detergent solution, then rinse thoroughly.
  2. Handle the blades gently — excessive force can damage the rubber edge.

If the problem persists after cleaning, replacement is the answer. Typical signs include:

  • Streaking: visible water lines left behind on the glass
  • Smearing: dirt spread across the surface instead of being removed
  • Vibration or squeaking: hardened or aged rubber
  • Skipping: the blade loses continuous contact with the windscreen
  • Visible wear: cracks, tears, brittleness or UV damage

As a rule of thumb, wiper blades are replaced every 6–12 months, but how they perform matters more than the calendar. Replacing them is a small investment with a major impact on safety, especially in heavy rain, at night and in difficult road conditions.
